Shelly Yohe registered a career-high 25 kills as the Elizabethtown College women's volleyball team topped Alvernia, 3-1, in non-conference action Thursday night.
With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 9-4 on the season, while the Wolves fall to 5-9.
Yohe hit .340 and added 12 digs for her second double-double in her last three matches. It is also the first time in her career with 20+ kills. Sophomore
Georgianna Kahley also finished with a double-double, tallying 12 kills and 15 digs to go along with a .344 hitting percentage. Senior
Rileigh Hudock dished out 30 assists and sophomore
Kambrie Hepler finished with a match-high 22 digs. Junior
Bryanna Miller cashed in her fifth double-double of the season and third straight with 12 kills and 13 digs.
Elizabethtown wasted little time putting its stamp on the match, flying out to a 14-6 lead in the opening set after junior
Sarah Hanks found Miller for the kill.
The Wolves responded, closing within three (15-12) after a quick 6-1 run, but the Blue Jays rattled off 10 of the final 13 points of the set for 25-15 win in the opening frame.
Holding a four point (9-5) advantage in the second set, Yohe scored four of the next five points of the match to extend Etown's lead to seven at 13-6.
The Blue Jays road this swing, pushing its lead to as many as nine before scoring the final four points of the set for the 25-13 win and the 2-0 lead.
After Alvernia took the third set, 27-25, Elizabethtown looked to close things out in the fourth. Down four (7-3) early in the set, the Blue Jays began to claw its way back into the match, using a 7-2 run rally to take its first lead since 1-0 at 10-9.
The two teams continued to swap the lead until the Blue Jays grabbed the momentum late in the set. With the Wolves holding a one point advantage (19-18), Etown scored seven of the final eight points of the match for the 25-20 win and the 3-1 victory.
Elizabethtown dives into Landmark Conference play this week as they travel to Scranton, Pa. to take on Goucher and Catholic. Opening serve for the two matches is 1:30 and 4 p.m.
