ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Lebanon Valley scored goals early in each half, topping the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team, 3-0, in non-conference action.
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 5-2-1, while the Dutchmen improve to 7-1-0 on the season.
Junior Lucas Strange scored two goals for LVC and classmate Zach Reed added another. Senior Peter Foerster had the lone assist.
The Dutchmen wasted little time scoring in the first half as Strange intercepted a pass in the Elizabethtown penalty box. He cut the ball back on the left side of the box and fired a shot to the opposite score for the 1-0 lead in the fourth minute. Â
The one goal advantage stood for LVC into the second half where they once again found an early goal. Foerster collected the ball just over midfield and skipped a pass through the Blue Jays' defense. Reed collected the ball at the top of the Etown box and rifled a shot into the back of the net for the 2-0 lead in the 51st minute.
The Blue Jays attempted to rally immediately after the Dutchmen's second goal as junior
Mehluko Letsoalo battled his way into the LVC penalty box and slipped a shot past the goalie to the near post, but put it off the wood work and the defense was able to clear it out of danger.
Freshman
Pedro Guizardi was the next Etown player to threaten in the 60th minute when a the ball squirted out to his feet after a corner kick at the top of the Dutchmen's penalty box. Guizardi settled with one touch and then fired a shot on goal that clanged off the cross bar and out of play.
Lebanon Valley snatched back momentum on the counter yet again as Strange picked off another Elizabethtown pass in the attacking third and buried a shot into the left side of the goal for the 3-0 lead in the 57th minute.Â
The three goal advantage proved to be the end of the scoring as the Dutchmen wrapped uo their seventh win of the season, 3-0.
