ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Freshman
Cade Brubaker tallied his first career goal, pacing the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Catholic in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 6-2-1 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Cardinals fall to 4-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Landmark.
It was not only Brubaker's first goal of his collegiate career but his first points as well. Sophomore
Andy Raab tallied his second assist of the season.
Etown found its game winner late in the first half as senior
Dylan Hairfield collected the ball at midfield and slotted a pass out to Raab down the right flank. The sophomore beat his defender around the corner and slotted a low service across the top of the six-yard box. Brubaker one-timed the cross past a frozen goalkeeper into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead in the 38th minute.
The Cardinals pressed hard in the second half, searching for an equalizer. Catholic nearly found it in the second half off a corner kick as Connor Bailey rose up between two defenders and headed the cross on frame. Junior
Kelvin Del Cid was there to meet the header, falling on the shot and smothering it.
The Etown defense held tough, turning away six shots by Catholic in the second half to the 1-0 victory. It is the first shutout for the Blue Jays against the Cardinals since 2018 when Elizabethtown beat Catholic 1-0 in the Landmark Conference Championship game.
Del Cid (4-1-1) made two saves for the Blue Jays to complete his third shutout of the season. Austin Corin (4-2) made one save for the visitors.
