ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Elizabethtown College men's soccer team scored two goal in each half to top Penn State Berks, 4-0, Wednesday night in non-conference action.
With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 7-2-1, while the Nittany Lions fall to 1-9-1.
Freshman
Hayden Oldham finished the night with the first two goals of his collegiate career. Senior
Massimo Mazzella tallied the other goal for Etown and sophomore
Jack Thomas recorded his first career assist.Â
The Blue Jays peppered the Berks goal early and often and broke through in the 19th minute. Junior
Ryan Hepler fired a shot from the top of the penalty box that was blocked by a Berks defender. The ball squirted to the feet of Oldham who touched a shot past the charging goalie for his first collegiate goal.
Oldham wasted little time finding his second career goal, collecting a service off a corner from Thomas and driving a shot just inside the near post and giving Etown the 2-0 lead with 7:47 remaining in the first half.
After an own goal made it 3-0, Mazzella fired home his first of the season. The senior collected the ball on the left side of the attacking third and dribbled across the top of the Nittany Lions' penalty box. Mazzella took a low shot across his body, burying it in the lower corner for the final goal of the game in the with less than two minutes to play.
Junior
Kelvin Del Cid (5-1-1) played the majority of the game in goal for Etown, making four saves on seven shots faced. Senior
Nick Pilny made his season debut late in the game to wrap up the shutout.
Jose Aparicio (1-9-1) made four saves on 15 shots faced.
Elizabethtown returns to Landmark Conference play when they travel to Huntingdon, Pa. to take on Juniata. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.Â
