Hardy continues scoring tear with two more in win at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- Senior Grace Hardy has been on a scoring tear for the Elizabethtown College field hockey team and added two more to her total Wednesday night in a 3-1 win at Wilkes. Hardy scored twice, including the game-winning goal as the Blue Jays moved above .500 with the win. Salena Paronish also scored for Etown.

It was Paronish that got Elizabethtown (5-4) going in the first quarter with her second goal of the season. Anna Mostoller was able to clear the ball out of the circle, sending it toward the right sideline at her own end. Etown kept possession and quickly maneuvered the ball up the field and generated a 2-on-1 for Paronish. She was able to shield off her defender, positioning her body as she moved into the circle. The goalie began to come out and she whipped a shot at goal and into the cage to make it 1-0.

Hardy made it her third straight game with at least a goal in the second quarter. Sydney Aguilar inserted a corner that came back to the left for Sierra Zittle. The grad student sent the ball toward goal and Hardy jumped on the loose ball and tucked it in for her seventh of the season and first of two in the game.

The Blue Jays led Wilkes (1-8) at the half.

Etown scored for the third consecutive quarter as Hardy again provided for her team. As the ball was sent into the circle from the right side, Hardy stepped in front of her defender and met the ball, going around the goalie as well and slotting the ball home for her second of the night to make it 3-0 going into the fourth quarter.

The Colonels were able to break up the shutout in the fourth on Ali Dunn's goal.

Angelina Giglio-Tos made six saves in the game to get the win.

Elizabethtown will get back into Landmark Conference play on Friday, October 1, at Catholic for a 6 p.m. matchup with the Cardinals.
