TOWSON, Md. -- Bailey Groff and
Sydney Reich each scored the first goals of their careers for the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team and
Ava Whisten added her second of the season as the Blue Jays flew past Goucher in the Landmark Conference opener, 3-0.
Trinity Soto and
Rena Rankin each played in the combined shutout.
Elizabethtown (3-4-1, 1-0 Landmark) continued its run of outshooting opponents. The Blue Jays had five credited shots in the first 15 minutes, but it was the sixth that mattered.
Gabi Brown found Whisten for the goal, her second of the year, and the only one Etown would end up needing on the day.
Reich added her first collegiate goal in the 37th minute to make it 2-0 for the Jays. Goucher (3-4, 0-1 Landmark) did not record another shot after Soto's lone first-half save in the 17th minute. Etown led 2-0 at the half.
Soto made two consecutive saves about 45 second apart from one another in the 75th minute, and soon thereafter, Groff added the insurance goal in the 77th. The sophomore followed up her own rebound for her first collegiate goal after coming on in the 59th minute.
Rankin, who relieved Soto for the final 6:04 of the game, made one save for Elizabethtown.
The Blue Jays outshot Goucher 22-6, with 13 shots on goal.
The women's soccer team will play at Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday, September 29, at 7 p.m.
