TOWSON, Md. -- Tom Mahoney has been a part of several firsts for the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse program, including the team's first Landmark championship and NCAA Division III Tournament victory. Monday, Mahoney became the first men's lacrosse player to earn the Landmark Conference's Senior Scholar Athlete honor. This marks the third spring sport athlete to be awarded this honor by the Landmark Conference.
Though the 2021 season didn't end in a conference championship or berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament, Mahoney still capped his career off in grand fashion. He was among the league leaders in multiple categories and set single-season career bests along the way as Etown advanced to its fifth consecutive Landmark title game.
For his play, Mahoney was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Year alongside Catholic defenseman Tynan Hillery. It was Mahoney's first major award selection from the conference and second time he's been selected as a First Team goalie.
In addition to his on-field success, Mahoney has been a standout student, too. The Hillsborough, N.J. native earned his fourth appearance on the Landmark Spring Academic Honor Roll and was also the male recipient of the Blue Jay Athletic Association's Distinguished Student-Athlete Award.
Mahoney was recently named a USILA All-America Honorable Mention for the second time in his career.
