ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- In their final regular season home doubleheader at The Nest, nationally-ranked No. 9 Moravian took a pair of games from the Elizabethtown College softball team. The Greyhounds won game one 4-0 and game two 7-1.
Lindsey Fasolo drove in a run for the Blue Jays in game two.
Game 1: Moravian 4, Elizabethtown 0
Brinley Schmidt started off the bottom of the first with a leadoff walk after Moravian (24-0, 20-0 Landmark) had taken a 1-0 lead in the top half of the inning.
Grace Hussey moved the senior up to second with the sac bunt and
Amelia Lark shifted her to third on a base hit down the left field line. Elizabethtown (3-19, 3-19 Landmark) would be unable to get that run across the plate as Madison Hummel got out of it without allowing a run.
The Greyhounds were up 4-0 after the fourth, but the Blue Jays were threatening in the bottom half of the fourth. Lark led off with a base knock through the right side, which was followed up by a second straight single, this from
Kaitlyn Witmer to left. Hummel induced a ground ball double play as Lark advanced to third, so Etown had another opportunity for a run but couldn't make it happen as Hummel got herself off the hook once again.
Jillian Meitzler hit a one out double over the left fielder's head to get another runner in scoring position. Courtney Fitzsimon's single moved her up to third and put two on with only one out. A pop out and a ground out ended the inning as two more were left on for Elizabethtown.
Hummel didn't allow another runner into scoring position over the final two innings and finished out her complete game shutout for her 11th win of the season. Lark led the Jays with a pair of hits in game one.
Game 2: Moravian 7, Elizabethtown 1
The Greyhounds took the lead with a pair of runs in the second and third innings and led 4-0 after four.
Meghan Bauer held the Blue Jays in check until Hussey broke up a potential no-hit bid in the bottom of the fourth frame. Hussey was on third in the inning, but Etown left her stranded, unable to punch in the run.
Down 7-0 in the seventh, Fasolo lobbed a single into left field to score Witmer from second. Witmer had advanced into scoring position on Bauer's wild pitch during
Ashley Mistichelli's at-bat. Mistichelli ended up walking to put two on.
It was the only run Bauer allowed as she went the distance for Moravian, holding the Jays to just two hits.
Elizabethtown will travel to Moravian to finish out the regular season against the Greyhounds with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. For more information on the Moravian College Spectator Policy,
