BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team closed out the regular season on Sunday at Blue & Grey Field for another doubleheader with No. 9 Moravian. The Greyhounds won game one 4-1 behind Madison Hummel and got the win in game two, 8-3, and Alexandria Scheeler and Meghan Bauer combined on the victory to keep the Greyhounds unbeaten.
Grace Hussey,
Kaitlyn Witmer, and
Paige Phillips each had multi-hit efforts on the day for the Blue Jays.
Game 1: #9 Moravian 4, Elizabethtown 1
Emily Silberman put Moravian (26-0, 22-0 Landmark) ahead 1-0 in the second on an RBI single, but the Blue Jays came back with a run of their own in the top half of the third inning.
Courtney Fitzsimons hit a one-out double to left center. Then, with two outs,
Grace Hussey knocked her in with a single back up the middle.
The Greyhounds retook the lead in the bottom half of the frame with a pair of runs and added another in the sixth inning. Madison Hummel won her 12th game of the season, not allowing another run after Hussey's RBI base hit in the third.
Hussey had a pair of hits in the loss.
Brinley Schmidt,
Lindsey Fasolo, and Fitzsimons accounted for the other hits for Etown.
Game 2: #9 Moravian 8, Elizabethtown 3
After a scoreless first inning, Moravian posted a two-run second inning followed by four in the third to go ahead 6-0 after three.
Kaitlyn Witmer scored on an RBI fielder's choice for
Ashley Mistichelli in the fourth inning. The Greyhounds negated the run with one of their own in the bottom half of the inning.
Witmer and
Paige Phillips each had RBIs for Elizabethtown (3-21, 3-21 Landmark) in the fifth to cut into the Hounds' lead. Though, for the fourth consecutive inning, Moravian added a run to the board and got it back to a five-run advantage, 8-3.
Bauer, who got the game two win yesterday, came on in relief of Scheeler to pitch the final two innings.
Elizabethtown finishes as the No. 7 seed for the Landmark Conference tournament. They will travel to Huntingdon, Pa. to face No. 6 seed Juniata in a single-game play-in on Thursday, May 6, for the rights to advance to the weekend's double elimination pod, hosted by Moravian. First pitch for Thursday's game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
