Caputo, Blue Jays hold off Susquehanna in game two to get the split

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Tori Caputo went the distance in game two of Tuesday's Landmark Conference doubleheader with Susquehanna at The Nest to get the split and earn the Jays' first win of the season. Elizabethtown College lost game one 7-2, but came back strong for a 6-4 win in game two.

Game 1: Susquehanna 7, Elizabethtown 2
Susquehanna (5-3, 5-3 Landmark) got out to a 1-0 lead early on Kiara Bryant's RBI triple in the first. Amelia Lark responded with an RBI hit of her own, knocking in Grace Hussey in the bottom half of the frame to tie it up at 1-1.

The River Hawks built up a 4-1 lead going into the sixth before adding three more runs to make it 7-1. Ashley Mistichelli's RBI base hit down the left field line brought in Kaitlyn Witmer to make it 7-2, but that's all Gabby Bubba allowed in Susquehanna's game one win.

Hussey, Brinley Schmidt, Witmer, Lark, and Mistichelli had a hit apiece for Etown.

Game 2: Elizabethtown 6, Susquehanna 4
It was all Blue Jays in the early going. Paige Phillips and Mistichelli hit back-to-back doubles in the first inning that totaled three runs. Phillips' double to right center scored Hussey and Mistichelli sent a double to left field to bring in Phillips and Lark.

Elizabethtown (1-11, 1-11 Landmark) capitalized on some opportunities with runners in position to score in the third. Emily Polimeni drew a bases loaded walk to make it 4-0. Courtney Fitzsimons knocked a single up the middle that scored Phillips. Another bases loaded hit from Schmidt scored Mistichelli and by the fourth it was 6-0 in favor of the Jays.

Susquehanna came charging back in the fifth with four runs to put the pressure on starter Tori Caputo.

The River Hawks had two in scoring position, including the game-tying run at second, in the sixth with one out. Caputo got Brittany Hebda to pop out in foul territory to Phillips near third base for the second out. Erin Bean grounded out to Fitzsimons at short to end the threat.

Caputo got Zoe Bork to fly out to Polimeni in center to start the seventh as the Blue Jays nursed the two-run lead. Ashley Warner grounded out to Hussey at second. After Bryant's single, Caputo induced a grounder to Phillips at third. The junior scooped it up and made the play to Witmer at first base for the final out and locked up the first win of the year for Etown.

Caputo struck out three in the game to get her first win of the year.
