HUNTINGDON, Pa. – In a back-and-forth affair, Juniata managed to win the final match of the afternoon and slip past the Elizabethtown College men's tennis team, 5-4, in Landmark Conference action Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 0-6 on the season while the Eagles improve to 1-4 overall.
Junior Jeffery Lapidus helped Etown to two points on the afternoon, partnering with senior Derek Yenser at #2 doubles for a 8-2 victory over freshman Ezenna Emuka and junior Keisuke Maeda before dispatching of Maeda at #4 singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Etown tied the match at four behind wins from Junior John Hanson at #2 singles against freshman Jackson Burnell (61, 6-2) and classmate Brock Culver Emuka (6-0, 6-2) at #5 singles.
Freshman Chris Talluto then battled with senior Anatole Lutun at #6 singles in the final match of the day, forcing a deciding third set after a 6-4 victory in the second. The Dickson City, Pa. native however couldn't complete the comeback in the final frame, falling to Lutun, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0.
