Seniors shine in blowout win over Moravian

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Prior to Saturday's tilt with Moravian, the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team celebrated its seniors in a pre-game ceremony. Once the opening whistle blew, it was all business as the Greyhounds paled in comparison to the Blue Jays at Wolf Field. Etown rolled off nine unanswered goals to take command of the game and finished off the day with a 12-3 win over Moravian. The seniors accounted for six goals and Tom Mahoney gave up a season-low three goals along with making 11 saves in the win.

The teams went scoreless through the first quarter of play as none of the combined 19 shots found the twine on either end of the field. Moravian (3-4, 1-4 Landmark) did convert early on in the second quarter as Cade Siddron scored his first of two on the day.

The Greyhounds held the lead for over half the quarter until Alex Kilgour netted the first of his hat trick with 6:29 to go before the half. The junior's goal started a run of nine unanswered by Elizabethtown (3-1, 3-1 Landmark). The defense clamped down and Mahoney did not allow a goal over the next 26:21, accounting for the remaining 13:05 of the second quarter after Siddron's game-opening goal and 13:16 into the third quarter. By that point, the Blue Jays were ahead 9-1.

Micah Ballew set up Mike Scrafano with 4:44 to go in the first half that gave Etown the lead at 2-1. Nick Cost closed out the half with a goal to make it 3-1 with 36 seconds remaining. They led 3-1 at the break.

The Elizabethtown offense lit up the scoreboard in the third quarter with a six-spot, including a pair of conversions on man up opportunities. Thomas Palen and Brandon Sankey each recorded man up goals in the quarter. Sankey had a pair of third quarter goals. Ballew, Kilgour, and Cameron Goodling also added tallies in the period and the Jays took a 9-2 lead into the fourth. Connor James got one back for Moravian near the end of the third.

Kilgour completed his hat trick on a feed from Sankey midway through the fourth quarter that made it 10-3. Brandon Smith and Cody Richter also scored in the fourth as Etown poured it on offensively. Richter's goal came a man up as the Blue Jays finished the day 3-for-5 on the extra man opportunities.

Connor Stewart and Giovanni Raso stepped up defensively for Elizabethtown, each causing three turnovers. Stewart had a team-high seven ground balls in the game. Danny Gilbert went 9-for-18 on faceoffs and collected six ground balls of his own.

Mahoney, now the program's all-time winningest goalie as of this past Wednesday's win over the Greyhounds, earned victory No. 34 on Saturday.

Elizabethtown will host Susquehanna on Wednesday, April 21, at 4 p.m. on Wolf Field. For the Elizabethtown College Spectator Policy, please CLICK HERE.
