Rangers rally to take two from Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team had a lead in each of the games played at The Nest on Tuesday. Drew rallied in both games to take two from the Blue Jays, 8-5 in game one and 4-2 in game two. Maddie Kupcha had her first career hit and RBIs in game one for Etown.

GAME ONE: Drew 8, Elizabethtown 5
Elizabethtown (0-8, 0-8 Landmark) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning. Paige Phillips singled through the left side to score Brinley Schmidt to give the Jays the 1-0 lead. Kupcha singled to center to bring in a pair as Amelia Lark and Phillips crossed home. Mistichelli also scored in the inning to give Etown the four-spot.

The Rangers pulled back within a run in the fourth, scoring three times to make it a one-run game. Drew (4-4, 4-4 Landmark) then took the lead in the sixth with two more runs.

Mistichelli drove in Phillips, who drove a one-out double over the center fielder's head. She scored the next at-bat as her junior teammate's base hit to center was enough to allow Phillips to score safely.

The Ranger broke the tie in the seventh with three runs to take an 8-5 lead into the bottom half of the seventh. Bailey Comeau came on in relief to get the final three outs to earn the save.

GAME TWO: Drew 4, Elizabethtown 2
Drew took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI groundout and led through four innings.

Elizabethtown posted a two-run fifth thanks to RBIs from Schmidt and Phillips. Those would be the only runs the Jays would get in the game, though they continued to lead 2-1 into the seventh.

The Rangers rallied once more with three runs in the top of the seventh. This time, Comeau was in line for the win as she got the last three outs to deny Etown any chance at a comeback.

The Blue Jays will host Susquehanna on Friday, April 2, for a Landmark Conference doubleheader at The Nest. Game times are set for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
