ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - The Elizabethtown men's basketball team scored more than 100 points for the first since the 2010-11 season, as the Blue Jays topped Penn State Berks, 102-64, Tuesday night.
With the win, Etown starts the season 1-0 and the Nittany Lions fall to 0-1.
The 102 points is the most points scored by the Blue Jays since January 10, 2011 when Elizabethtown toped Rutgers-Camden, 108-65.
Senior
Jalin Robinson led all scorers with 21 points. Freshmen
Rance Russo (14),
Jadon Green (11), and
Alon Gorham (10) all scored in double figures for the Blue Jays.Â
Junior Jeff Lorah paced Penn State Berks with 19 points.
Etown jumped out to an lead in the first half as senior
Aidan Trynosky found Russo for the three for the 9-5 advantage. The Blue Jays continued to press as sophomore
Tyreke Herbert stole the ball and started the break the other way. Gorham finished off the fast break with a layup and the 23-12 lead with 12:30 on the clock.
Elizabethtown continued to have its way with the Nittany Lions, as Russo grabbed a rebound and found sophomore
Jared Archer for the jumper and the 19 point advantage (41-22) with just over 5:30 to play in the opening stanza. Herbert made one final three at the buzzer to give the Blue Jays a 58-31 lead going into the locker room.
It was more of the same in the second half as Herbert drained a jumper in the paint to move in front by 40 (73-33) with 10:48 left in the game.
Etown continued to dominate, pushing its lead to as many as 44 to take the season opener 102-64. Green highlighted the final stretch of the game, throwing down two thunderous dunks to put an exclamation point on the win.
The Blue Jays shot 59.4% (38-64) from the floor and made 9-23 (39.1%) from three. Penn State Berks finished the night 26-70 (37.1%) from the field and shot 22.2% (4-18) from beyond the arch.
Elizabethtown hits the road for the first time this season on Friday, November 12 for game one of the Hochberg Family Tip-Off Tournament against host Vassar. Opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
