Blue Jays Win Five Set Thriller Against Moravian

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Four different players registered double-doubles as the Elizabethtown College women's volleyball team topped Moravian, 3-2, Wednesday night in Landmark Conference action.

With the win the Blue Jays run its winning streak to eight matches, moving to 12-4 overall and 3-0 in league play. The Greyhounds fall to 8-12 on the season and 0-3 in the Landmark.

Junior Sarah Hanks recorded a career-high 52 assists to go along with 19 digs. Sophomore Georgianna Kahley tallied her third double-double in her last four matches, finishing with 18 kills and 22 digs. Senior Shelly Yohe has 13 kills and 14 digs and junior Bryanna Miller registered 11 kills and 28 digs. Sophomore Kambrie Hepler had a match-high 34 digs.

Down 13-6 in the opening set, Etown began to claw its way back into the match with a 10-3 run to tie the score capped off by a kill from junior Courtney Westman.

The two teams continued to battle in the first frame, running all the way to a tie at 26. Hanks and Yohe ended things for the Blue Jays, connecting for the final two points of the set, giving Elizabethtown the comeback win, 28-26.

After Moravian took the second set to tie the match score at one, the Blue Jays moved out to a 12-8 lead in the second after consecutive kills from Kahley and Yohe.  

Etown continued to hold onto the momentum, stretching its lead to nine at 19-10 on its way to the 25-15 victory in set three.

The Greyhounds forced a fifth and final set taking the fourth 25-23. Tied at six in the final frame, the Blue Jays took control, rattling off four straight points for the 10-6 lead. Sophomore Katie Scaggs recorded two kills over this stretch.

Moravian would only manage one more points the rest of the way and senior Rileigh Hudock finished off the night with an ace, giving Etown the 15-7 win and 3-2 victory overall.

Elizabethtown hits the road this weekend for two matches on Saturday, October 9 against Messiah and Rutgers-Camden in Grantham, Pa. The Blue Jays open the day at 11 a.m. against Rutgers-Camden and wrap up the day against Messiah at 1 p.m.
