Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Big first half by LVC too much for field hockey

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Even though the combination of Rachel Murphy and Madeline Kachel did not allow a goal in the third and fourth quarters, two goals in the first and second quarters was plenty for Lebanon Valley in its 4-1 win over the Elizabethtown College field hockey team Monday at Wolf Field. Grace Hardy scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season in the loss.

Both of Lebanon Valley's (3-8) first-quarter goals came off penalty corner plays. Sarah Leidich scored a few minutes into the game. Then, Alana Antonello made it 2-0 with less than two minutes to go in the first. Elizabethtown (5-6) did not record a shot in the first quarter.

Jenna Angstadt made it 3-0 early into the second quarter as the Dutchmen kept up the pressure.

The Blue Jays got their first cracks at goal late in the second. After an Etown insert, Sierra Zittle put a shot on goal that was stopped. Sydney Aguilar, who recorded a defensive save minutes earlier, had consecutive tries saved by Corinne Kearney. One final try from Chloe Smith was kept out by Emily Kline.

Down at the other end, LVC converted with less than a minute to go before halftime, completing the two-goal swing as Rachel Wright made it 4-0 just before half.

Murphy started the third quarter for the Jays and stopped both shots she saw. Meanwhile, Grace Hussey got to the end line and crossed back in front of goal. Hardy received the pass with her back to goal, spun around and beat Kearney for the goal. Elizabethtown trailed 4-1 going into the fourth.

Madeline Kachel played the fourth quarter for the Blue Jays and saved the only shot either team registered during the 15 minutes. LVC went on to win 4-1.

Elizabethtown will host Swarthmore on Wednesday, October 6, at 4:30 p.m.
