ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Senior
Thomas Knox III's goal in the 49th minute proved to be the game winner as the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team topped Scranton, 1-0, on senior day.
With the win, the Blue Jays finish the regular season 9-5-2 overall and 4-2-1 in Landmark play. Etown also locked up the #3 seed in next week's conference tournament. The Royals finish the season 4-6-5 overall and 1-3-3 in the league.
The goal was Knox III's first of the season while freshman
Pedro Guizardi and junior
Mehluko Letsoalo registered their fourth and third assist respectively.
After a scoreless first half, the Blue Jays wasted little time after intermission finding the lead. Just under four minutes into the period, Letsoalo found space down the right side to whip a cross into the center of the Scranton penalty box. The service found Guizardi who settled it to Knox III who then took a touch and fired it into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.Â
The Etown defense held the Royals to only three shots in the second half, securing Etown's seventh shutout of the season.
