Women's Volleyball Sends Seniors out With Sweeps of Dutchmen, Cougars

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - On senior day, the Elizabethtown College women's volleyball team swept Lebanon Valley and Misericordia Saturday in non-conference action.

With the two wins, the Blue Jays move to 19-6 on the year.

Before the start of the second match, Etown celebrated its five seniors: Rileigh Hudock, Shelly Yohe, Ashley Snesavage, Elizabeth Zeiber, and Marlee Dzergoski.

Yohe finished the day with a double-double in match one with 10 kills and 12 digs before following that performance up with 14 kills. Hudock tallied two aces in each match to go along with a double-double in match two with 15 assists and 14 digs. Junior Bryanna Miller registered 14 kills in the win against the Dutchmen. 

Etown came out charging in the opening match, running out to a 11-2 after back-to-back kills from Miller. 

The Blue Jays continued to press, pushing lead to 10 (21-11) before rattling off the final four points for the 25-11 win in the first stanza.

Holding a three point lead in the second set, Etown stretched its advantage to five (17-12) after a kill by Miller followed up by an ace from sophomore Kambrie Hepler.

Lebanon Valley continue to close within three all the way to 24-21, but junior Courtney Westman and Yohe rose up for a block to finish off the frame, 25-21.

Down 10-9 in the third, the Blue Jays erupted for six straight points highlighted by three consecutive kills from Yohe to move in front, 15-10.

Leading by six (19-13), Etown finished off the first match of the day in style, using a 6-1 run to finish of the Dutchmen, 25-14 and complete the 3-0 sweep.

Much like the first set against the Dutchmen, the Blue Jays came flying out of the gate in the first set against the Cougars, running out to a 12-2 lead capped off by two aces from Hepler.

Misericordia never threatened in the first, as sophomore Katie Scaggs completed the 25-12 win with a solo block.

Tied at 12 in the second set, Etown used a 5-1 run to move ahead 17-13. Hudock and Scaggs combined for a block followed up by an ace from Miller to complete the run.

The Cougars closed within two at 20-18 but the Blue Jays used another 5-1 run to wrap up the second 25-19.

Down 16-13 Etown took control of the match as Hepler served 12 straight points to highlight a 13-0 run, completing the sweep 25-16.

The Blue Jays travel to Madison, N.J. for it's final regular season road match of the year against Drew on Wednesday, October 27. Opening serve is set for 7 p.m.
