ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Brandon Jimenez's header goal in the 94th minute propelled Drew to a 2-1 victory over Elizabethtown in Landmark Conference action Saturday night.
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 8-5-2 overall and 3-2-1 in league play. The Rangers improve to 7-7-1 on the season and 4-1-1 in the Landmark.
Freshman
Jake Groh scored his third goal of the season to force overtime for Etown. Classmate
Pedro Guizardi tallied his third assist of the year.
Jimenez finished the night with his lone goal and an assist for Drew. Kevin Kiernan scored the opener for the Rangers, his eighth of the year while Christian Tyson assisted the game-winner.
After a scoreless first half, the Rangers opened the scoring as Jimenez collected the ball at midfield and dribbled down the center of the pitch. He slipped Kiernan into the Blue Jays' penalty box who held off an Etown defender and lifted the ball over junior goalkeeper
Kelvin Del Cid for the 1-0 lead in the 81st minute.
The Blue Jays wasted little time responding, as freshman
Cade Brubaker picked off a pass at midfield and quickly found the feet of Guizardi who turned up field. Guizardi then hit a through ball to Groh on the right side of Drew's penalty box. Groh settled the pass and touched a slow rolling shot past Drew's goalie, tucking it just inside the far post, leveling the game at one and forcing overtime.
Just over three minutes into the first overtime, the Rangers found the game-winning goal as Tyson tracked town an errant cross by Drew and served it right back into the box. Jimenez rose up and headed it home, giving the Rangers the 2-1 win.
Del Cid (6-4-2) made six saves for the Blue Jays while Calum Erlenborn (4-4-0) made one.
