ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - Junior
Sarah Hanks recorded her 1,000th career assist, as the Blue Jays fell to Stevenson, 3-1, Thursday night in non-conference action.
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 14-6 on the season, while the Mustangs improve to 18-4.
Hanks finished the night with a match-high 38 assists giving her 1,017 for her career. Senior
Shelly Yohe registered a team-high 14 kills to go along with nine digs and sophomore
Katie Scaggs tallied a career-high 13 kills and five block assists.
After Stevenson took the two opening sets Etown attempted a comeback in the third. Holding a one point lead, the Blue Jays rattled off four straight points highlighted by two kills from Yohe, making the score 12-7.
From this points, Etown use a 7-4 run capped off by a kill from Hanks, stretching its lead to eight (19-11).
Continuing to lead by eight (21-13) after an ace from senior
Rileigh Hudock, the Mustangs began to climb back into the match, scoring four straight points to close within four (21-17).
The Blue Jays, however, slammed the door on the third set, using a kill from junior
Bryanna Miller, two from sophomore
Gianna Krinock and then an ace from hangs to close out the frame, 25-17.
Down by five in the fourth at 16-11, Etown snatched back momentum, scoring three straight points behind kills from Scaggs, Miller, and Hanks to close within two (16-14).
The next three points proved pivotal as Stevenson won three, hard-fought, consecutive points to go ahead 19-14 and grab the momentum right back.
The Blue Jays attempted one final surge, battling off match point twice thanks to a block from Scaggs and Yohe to cut the deficit to two (24-22). The Mustangs, however, found the final kill on the next point to take the fourth set, 25-22, and the match, 25-22.
Elizabethtown hits the road for a tri-match at Hood on Saturday, October 16. The Blue Jays play the hosts at 10 a.m. followed by Lycoming at 12 p.m.
