SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Tied at the half, Swarthmore outscored the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team 12-5 in the second half for the 19-12 win in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 3-3 on the season, while the Garnet improved to 3-2 overall.
Sophomore
Owen Yake tallied a team-high four goals for Elizabethtown. Senior
Mike DiGenova recorded four points with three goals and one assists and sophomore
Nick Cost finished with three points on a goal and two assists.
Senior Jake Ross registered a game-high five points with four goals and one assists to lead Swarthmore. Classmate Austin Chang was right behind Ross with four points on three goals and one assist.
Down 4-3 after one period, Elizabethtown tied up the game at the start of the second after junior
Brandon Sankey found DiGenova for the equaling goal.
After a 3-0 run by the Garnet gave them a 7-4 advantage, Elizabethtown mounted a rally with a 3-0 run of its own, highlighted by a goal from DiGenova with four seconds left in the half to give the Blue Jays the momentum going into the locker room.
Swarthmore however, snatched back control of the game, outscoring Elizabethtown 5-1 in the third quarter, on its way to the 19-12 victory.
Senior
Tom Mahoney (3-3) made nine saves in goal for the Blue Jays.
Frankie Dillon (3-2) made eight saves, holding Elizabethtown to five goals in the second half, for his third win of the season.
The Blue Jays are back in action on Saturday, Mar. 14 against Widener. Opening face-off is set for 1 p.m.
