GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team ran out to an 8-1 lead in the first half on its way to the 14-4 win over Messiah Wednesday night in non-conference action.
With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Falcons fall to 0-4.
After being named to the USILA Division III Team of the Week on Tuesday, sophomore
Nick Cost led Elizabethtown with five points on four assists and a goal. Seniors
Mike Scrafano and
Mike DiGenova, junior
Cameron Goodling and sophomores
Micah Ballew and
Owen Yake all finished with two goals apiece.
Senior Garrett Amsbaugh paced the Messiah with two goals.
After falling behind 1-0 in the opening five minutes of the game, the Blue Jays went on an 8-0 run extending to the end of the half, capped off by a goal by Ballew with 12 seconds remaining in the opening stanza.
Messiah managed to get one goal back at the start of the third, but Elizabethtown slammed the door on any comeback, scoring three unanswered for the 11-2 lead heading into the final period.
The Blue Jays rattled off three more goals in the fourth quarter thanks to goal from Cost, senior
Scott Nizolak and DiGenova to complete its third victory of the season, 14-4.
Senior goalie
Tom Mahoney (3-2) played the majority of game in goal, making 14 saves and allowing a season-low four goals. Sophomore
John Talbott saw his first minutes of the season, making one save.
Senior Evan Stoker (0-4) took the losing making five saves and allowing 10 goals.

Danny Gilbert won 13-20 face-offs with a team-high five ground balls.
The Blue Jays are back in action Saturday, Mar. 7 at Swarthmore. Opening face-off is set for 1 p.m.
