Lawson named the Landmark WBB Senior Scholar Athlete

TOWSON, Md. -- Lydia Lawson added another major award to her name after being selected as the Landmark Conference Women's Basketball Senior Scholar Athlete. She is the second player for the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team to earn the honor.

The Landmark Conference selects 22 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics. The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark Conference officers, athletics directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives, and sports information directors.

A standout on the pitch in the fall, Lawson also excelled for the Blue Jays on the hardwood, helping lead the program to four consecutive Landmark playoff appearances and the team's first-ever championship game in 2018-19.

This past season, Lawson averaged career-highs of 14.8 points per game and team and conference-leading 5.8 assists per game. She became the 27th player in program history to record 1,000 points on January 18 against Susquehanna. Lawson also ranked nationally the past two seasons in assists, assists per game, and assist to turnover ratio.

The senior scholar athlete award bookends a stellar career for the Mountain Top, Pa. native. She was named to the All-Landmark First Team for a third straight year, was a two-time conference Athlete of the Week for the 2019-20 season and three-time Winter Academic Honor Roll selection, and also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District 4 First Team status and is eligible for All-America honors.

Lawson was named a 2018 Emergent Scholar and earned Elizabethtown's Distinguished Student-Athlete Award last year. Off the court, Lawson is involved in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), serves as a student-athlete mentor (SAM), and volunteers at the College's Special Olympics Swim Meet. She acts as a student-athlete speaker at open house events and takes part in the school's Into the Campus initiative.
