ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Lexie Sharp outscored the opposition and the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team allowed just one goal over the final 30 minutes in Tuesday's 19-8 win over Immaculata at Wolf Field. Sharp scored nine times in the game as the Blue Jays had 13 assists on 19 goals.
Caity Howell and
Jennifer Beihoff each played a half for E-town in the win.
Elizabethtown (4-2) went up 6-0 in the first seven minutes of the game as Sharp and
Hannah Cressman connected on four of the six goals.
Jesse Sartor scored a player up and then assisted on
Mirthe Berends' ninth of the season.
Maura Murray got the Mighty Macs on the board with her 10th of the year with a little over 20 minutes remaining in the first half.
Immaculata (2-4) settled into the game and eventually got within a goal with 4:16 left in the half. They held the Blue Jays scoreless over the final 16:13 of the half after
Emily Garvin's first of two in the game. E-town led 8-7 at the break.
The second half was a much different story as Elizabethtown scored early and often, but this time, allowed little to nothing for the Mighty Macs offensively.
Kate Ziegler started off the second-half scoring for the Jays with her 16th of the season. In a four-minute span, E-town went from being up just a goal to being up six after
Anna Charitonchick delivered a pass to Garvin for her second of the evening. Murray had another IU to break up the five-goal streak to start the half for Elizabethtown, though it was the only one Beihoff would allow in goal.
Sharp scored twice in ten seconds with under eight minutes to go as the Blue Jays blew open the game. Sharps' ninth of the game and 36th of the season was the final dagger with 2:26 remaining in regulation. She now sits on 99 for her career and can hit the 100 mark on Saturday at home against Albright.
Defensively, Immaculata could only muster six shots over the final 30 minutes, with just four on goal and three saved by Beihoff. Elizabethtown forced 12 turnovers and were nearly perfect on their second-half clears, going 9-for-10. E-town also did its number on draw controls, winning nine of 13 in the half. Sharp had a game-high 10 of those, which ties for the seventh-most in a single game. She also had 16 shots a few days after breaking the program record, formerly 16.
Garvin led the Blue Jays with five caused turnovers while Ziegler and
Cassidy Pawlicki each tied for a team-high with five ground balls.
Claudia Jones,
Amber Venit,
Olivia Beachley, and Ziegler all had two CTs apiece.
Elizabethtown will host Albright on Saturday, March 14, at Wolf Field for a 1 p.m. non-conference contest.
