Cardinals Slip Past Blue Jays with Late Three

WASHINGTON D.C. – Catholic's senior Colin Hartmann knocked down a three pointer with three second remaining, as the Cardinals topped Elizabethtown, 70-67, Wednesday night in Landmark Conference action.

With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 11-8 overall and 4-5 in the league, while Catholic improves to 8-12 on the season and 4-5 in the Landmark.

Senior Ethan Dubois scored a game-high 21 points, adding seven rebounds and four assists. Freshman Wyatt Hockenberry finished with 11 points of his own and senior Connor Moffat scored 10 points.
Hartmann tallied a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds for the Cardinals.

Down two midway through the first half, Hockenberry grabbed a pass from DuBois and drained a three to give Elizabethtown its first lead of the night at 16-15.

The Blue Jays pushed their lead to as many as five in the closing minutes of the opening period, heading into the locker room with the 33-29 advantage.

The visitors held the momentum in the first five minutes of the second half, as senior Bryce Greene knocked down two shots from the line to give Elizabethtown the nine point lead (46-37) with 13:58 on the clock.

Catholic chipped away at the deficit and moved in front for the first time in the second, as sophomore Will Mulquin completed the three point play from the line for the 47-46 lead.

Over the final 11:40 of the game the score was tied eight times with the final time coming after a three from DuBois with 18 seconds remaining. After a timeout, Catholic freshman Jack Kouba found Collin Hartmann for the game winning three, giving the Cardinals the 70-67 win.

The Blue Jays made 23-49 (46.9%) from the floor and 9-19 (47.4%) from three, while Catholic shot37.3% (22-59) from the floor and 28.6% (8-28) from beyond the arc.

Elizabethtown remains on the road this Saturday, Feb. 8, when they travel to Susquehanna. Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
