Blue Jays Overcome 19-Point Second Half Deficit, Top First Place Royals

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Down 19 points in the second half, the Elizabethtown College men's basketball team came roaring back to take down first place Scranton, 70-68, Saturday afternoon in Landmark Conference action.

With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 11-7 on the season and 4-4 in league play, while the Royals fall to 14-5 overall and 6-2 in the conference.

Senior Ethan DuBois finished just shy of a triple-double, tying for a team-high with 18 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Classmate Connor Moffatt pushed his double-double streak to six game, scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Senior Bryce Greene also tallied double-figures with 16 points while sophomore Tyler Rinehimer had eight boards.

Senior Matthew Mancuso finished with a game-high 19 points and 12 rebounds. Joining the upperclassmen in double figures were sophomore Ben Bosland (17) and senior Kyle DeVerna (13).

Down 19 with 15:28 remaining, Elizabethtown took back all the momentum behind an 18-0 run to close within one (53-52) after a free-throw from Rinehimer with just under nine to play.

After tying the game at both 55 and then 57, the Royals moved back in front by three (60-57) after DeVerna knocked down a three with 6:46 on the clock.

The Royals continued to hold onto a slim lead after Bosland knocked down two from the line with 2:18 left in the period, before DuBois came down the other end and banged a three to put the Blue Jays in front, 67-66.

The game remained one possession as Elizabethtown managed to inbound the ball with 19 seconds on the clock, and with a few quick passes, broke the press, finding freshman Wyatt Hockenberry at the other end of the court for the easy two and the four point advantage with 10 seconds remaining.

Scranton closed the gap to two after a dunk from Mancuso with three second to go and proceeded to steal the inbound, but Bosland's jumper fade away jumper went begging, and the Blue Jays knocked off the Royals at home for the second consecutive year, 70-68.

Elizabethtown finished 41.9% (26-62) from the floor and 35.3% (6-17) from three, while the visitors were 27-60 (45%) from the floor and 6-20 (30%) from beyond the arc.

The Blue Jays are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 5, as they travel to Catholic. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
