TOWSON, Md. - Get to know Katie Scaggs, a freshman on the Elizabethtown College women's volleyball team, in this installment of the Landmark's Freshman Friday series.
Why did you choose Elizabethtown?
I chose to attend Elizabethtown because I loved everything about the culture of the school. The positive atmosphere and individualized attention from the faculty and coaching staff was unparalleled to any other school I had considered.
How did you start playing volleyball?
I was actually a basketball player until eighth grade when I was asked to try volleyball. I ended up falling in love with the sport and continued to play in high school. I am very excited to begin my athletic career here at Etown.
Who is your role model and why?
My role model is Kerri Walsh Jennings, who is a pro beach volleyball player and three-time Olympic gold medalist. One thing that I really admire about Kerri is she does everything with a smile on her face, has a positive attitude and is an amazing athlete.
What is your dream vacation?
I would love to travel to the Greek islands with my sister Allie.
What is a hidden talent you have?
I can juggle!
What song are you listening to on repeat?
"Somebody's Problem" by Morgan Wallen.
What is your favorite holiday?
Christmas! I love the entire season and the happiness that it brings throughout all of December!
