Rangers Slip Past Blue Jays Late

MADOSIN, N.J. – The Elizabethtown men's basketball team fell on the road to Drew, 76-71, Saturday afternoon in Landmark Conference action.

With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 9-7 overall and 2-4 in league play. The Rangers improve to 14-3 on the season and 5-1 in the Landmark.

Senior Connor Moffatt tallied his fifth straight double-double, finishing with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Classmate Bryce Greene scored a game-high 20 points and freshman Wyatt Hockenberry registered 10.

Riley Collins led three different Drew players in double figures, scoring 17. Lybrant Robinson followed Collins with 16 points, while Howard McBurnie Jr. had 14.

The Blue Jays jumped out to a five point lead in the early going of the first half, as senior Ethan DuBois knocked down a three with just under four minutes gone in the opening stanza.

Elizabethtown pushed its advantage to six with 6:00 on the clock when Moffatt completed a three point play from the line to give the Blue Jays a 20-14 cushion.

The Rangers bounced back in the final six minutes of the first half to tie the game at 26 going into the locker room thanks to two from the line from Michael Boice.

The home team took its turn going ahead at the start of the second, as Collins banged a three in transition to give Drew the 38-33 lead with 16:40 remaining in the game.

After the Rangers increased its lead to 10 (48-37), the Blue Jays began to creep back into the game as Moffatt laid it in for two the make it a one possession game with just over 10 minutes remaining (48-45).

Elizabethtown had to climb out of another 10 point hole, but found a way, as the Blue Jays closed within three (74-71) and had the ball with 34 second left with a chance to tie.
Elizabethtown, however, was unable to find the tying basket and Drew hit its foul shots down the stretch to take its fourth Landmark Conference win of the season, 76-71.

The Blue Jays made 27-71 (38%) from the floor and shot 26.1% (6-23) from three. The Rangers were 48.1% (26-54) overall and knocked down 8-25(32%) from three.

Elizabethtown remains on the road to take on Juniata on Wednesday, Jan. 29. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
