Moffatt Scores 1,000th Point as Blue Jays Top Cardinals in Landmark Action

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Senior Connor Moffatt became the 34th player in program history to score 1,000 points as Elizabethtown topped Catholic, 53-50, Wednesday night.

With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 9-6 on the season and 2-3 in Landmark play while the Cardinals fall to 5-11 overall and 1-4 in the league.

Moffatt registered his fourth consecutive double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. He reached 1,000 points on his second basket of the game and now sits at 1,011 for his career. Classmate Ethan DuBois matched Moffatt with 17 points and added seven rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Zach Nannen grabbed eight rebounds.

Senior Riley Hayes scored a team-high 12 points for Catholic while recording nine rebounds.

The Blue Jays ran out to a seven point lead (14-7) after DuBois took a pass from Moffatt and banged a three with just over five minutes gone in the opening stanza.

Elizabethtown continued to hold the Cardinals at arms-length until sophomore Will Mulquin knocked down his first of two free throws to tie the game at 18 with 5:06 remaining in the first.

After the visitors pushed its advantage to five (23-18) with 4:25 on the clock, The Blue Jays closed the period on an 8-2 run to head into the locker room up 26-25.

In similar fashion to the first half, Elizabethtown once again pushed its lead to seven (34-27) after Nannen found sophomore Aiden Trynosky with a pass for the layup with 16:00 left in regulation.

Catholic chipped away over the next eight minutes and knotted the game up at 43 when freshman Jack Kouba buried a three with just under 8:30 remaining.

The Blue Jays pushed in front again by three (53-50) and forced a deep three by junior Justin Pryor that went begging to secure their second conference win of the season.

Elizabethtown shot 32.1% (17-53) from the field and made 6-23 (26.1%) from three. The Cardinals were 21-61 (34.4%) overall and knocked down 22.7% (5-22) from beyond the arc. The Blue Jays scored 13 points off turnovers while compiling 22 points in the paint.

Elizabethtown hits the road for its next two games, starting with Drew on Saturday, Jan. 25. Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
