Comeback Bid Comes Up Short against River Hawks

ELIZABETHTOWN Pa. – Down by as many as 17, the Elizabethtown men's basketball team closed within one point late, but could not complete the comeback as they fell to Susquehanna, 86-74, Saturday afternoon in Thompson Gymnasium.
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 8-6 overall and 1-3 in the Landmark, while the River Hawks improve to 11-4 on the season and 4-0 in league play.

Senior Ethan DuBois scored a career-high 20 to go along with seven assists. DuBois entered today's game eight in the nation, averaging 6.6 assists per game. Senior Bryce Green was second the team with 18 points and classmate Connor Moffatt registered his sixth double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Moffatt is six points away from becoming the 34th player in program history to reach 1,000 points.

Susquehanna's entire starting lineup each score in double-figures led by junior Bryce Butler and sophomore Lukas Yurasits who each scored 19. Junior Matt LaCorte was right behind them with 18, while sophomore Danny Frauenheim and senior Zachary Knecht each tallied 10.

Elizabethtown held an early seven point lead (14-7) after DuBois found freshman Wyatt Hockenberry for the three-pointer with just over 15 minutes to play in the first.

The River Hawks continued to pressure the Blue Jays on the defensive end of the court, helping them climb back into the game as LaCorte knocked down a jumper in the paint for the 23-22 advantage with 11:18 left on the clock.

Susquehanna continued to increase its lead before the half and went into the locker room up seven (42-35) after LaCorte banged a three with 28 second remaining in the opening stanza.

Down 17 with 14:42 left in the game, Elizabethtown began to chip away at the River Hawks' lead, going on a 29-13 run capped off by a basket from DuBois with 2:28 left in the game, making the score 74-73 in favor of the visitors.

The run however came up short, as Susquehanna completed its fourth Landmark win of the season with a 12-1 rally to secure the 86-74 victory.

The Blue Jays made 28-63 (44.4%) from the field and shot 28% (7-25) from three. The River Hawks finished the afternoon shooting 41.4% (29-70) overall and tallied 9-30 (30%) from beyond the arc. Susquehanna took advantage of 19 Elizabethtown turnovers, turning the miscues into 28 points.

The Blue Jays remain at home and in conference play, hosting Catholic on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
