Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Blue Jays, Spartans Play to Scoreless Draw

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – For the third consecutive game to start the season, the Elizabethtown men's soccer team went to overtime, tying York 0-0 Saturday night at Ira R. Herr Field.
With the tie, the Blue Jays record moves to 1-1-1, while the Spartans record sits at 2-0-2.

In a physical game that saw a combined 33 fouls and four yellow cards, quality scoring opportunities were at a minimum.

York saw its best opportunity of the game in the waning seconds of the first half as freshman Ethan Lassen got a touch on a service and redirected it towards goal. Freshman goalkeeper Kevin Del Cid made a reaction save, knocking the shot wide and keeping the score 0-0 at the intermission.

After neither team could find a goal in regulation, Elizabethtown nearly won it just over two minutes into the first overtime period. Freshman Tate Mohney controlled a pass in the right corner of the Spartans' attacking third. Mohney was able to cut across his defender, and hit a low curling shot to the opposite post, forcing a diving save by junior goalkeeper Billy Bridegum.

The Blue Jays outshot York 6-1 in the two extra-time periods but were unable to find the back of the net, closing Elizabethtown's third game of the season in a scoreless draw.

Del Cid (1-1-1) made five saves while facing 17 shots from the Spartans. In just three games, the first year has already played over 300 minutes (308:55) in goal, sporting a .87 goals against average.

Bridegum (2-0-2) registered two saves on 13 shots by the Blue Jays. Bridegum has now gone three-straight games with allowing a goal.

Elizabethtown remains at home as they battle No. 17 Franklin & Marshall for the Smith-Herr Boot Wednesday night. Opening kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
