Blue Jays Run Winning Streak to Five

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Elizabethtown women's volleyball pushed its winning streak to five straight matches, topping Pittsburgh-Bradford, 3-1 and coming from behind to take down Hartwick, 3-2 Friday evening at the Lycoming Invitational.
 
Sophomore Rileigh Hudock registered back-to-back double doubles, finishing the night with 52 assists and 34 digs. Senior Elle Shatto completed the evening with 36 kills and 18 digs, while freshman Bryanna Miller recorded 24 kills and 32 digs.
 
ELIZABETHTOWN 3, PITTSBURGH-BRADFORD 1 (25-10, 22-25, 25-19, 25-16)
•    SET ONE: The Blue Jays came out charging in the opening set, running out to a 9-4 lead, forcing a timeout by the Panthers. Elizabethtown did not let off the accelerator coming out the timeout cruising to the opening set victory, 25-10. The Blue Jays hit .323 in the opening set, including five serving aces. 
•    SET TWO: Tied at seven, Elizabethtown rattled off three straight points to move out to a 10-3 lead. Shatto and sophomore Elizabeth Zeiber each tallied kills over this stretch, while freshman Bryana Miller wrapped it up with an ace. The Blue Jays remained on top until Pittsburgh-Bradford tied the score at 15. The two teams continued to trade leads all the way to 19 before the Panthers outscored Elizabethtown 6-3 to take the second set.
•    SET THREE: Elizabethtown climbed right back in the driver seat in set three, jumping out to a 5-1 lead after a kill by Zeiber. Pittsburgh-Bradford squeaked at 12-10 before the Blue Jays took back the momentum, finishing off the set with a 13-7 run for the 2-1 lead. 
•    SET FOUR: Elizabethtown made it four-straight victories in the third set, earning a 10 point victory in the final set. The Blue Jays finished off the final set in a big way, breaking open a tie at 15 with the final 10 points of the set. Sophomore Allison Fischer and Miller both had two sets over this final run. 
 
ELIZABETHTOWN 3, HARTWICK 2 (23-25, 25-27, 25-20, 25-14, 16-14)
•    SET ONE: The opening set was a battle to the end as the Hawks inched back from a two point deficit (21-19) to tie the score at 23. Hartwick took home the first set, ticking off the final two points for the early 1-0 lead. Miller had five kills and 10 digs in the opening set.
•    SET TWO: The Hawks notched another two point victory in the second set to push ahead 2-0. The Blue Jays held a late advantage (23-20) before Hartwick mounted a comeback, forcing a tie at 25. Sophomore Kayley Ericson complete the comeback, sending home a kill for the 25-27 victory.
•    SET THREE: Elizabethtown began to mount a comeback, taking set three 25-20.Tied at five, the Blue Jays rattled off six straight points for an 11-5 lead. Elizabethtown led by as many as seven (17-10) as freshman Sarah Barrett finished off the set the third set with a kill on its way to making the match score 2-1.
•    SET FOUR: The Blue Jays it to five in a big way, taking the fourth set 25-14. Holding a 13-10 lead, Elizabethtown rattled off eight of the next nine points to pull ahead 21-11. Freshman Julia Baker completed the fourth with a kill, bringing the Blue Jays back from a 2-0 hole and force a decisive fifth set.
•    SET FIVE: Elizabethtown completed an exciting comeback in the final set, wrapping up its fifth straight win with a 16-14 final set victory. Up 8-4, the Hawks mounted a comeback to take the final set, tying things up at nine. Things remained all the way up to 14, when Fischer sent home a kill and Baker finished Friday evening off with a match-winning block.
