Women's Volleyball Splits on the Final Day of the Blue Jay Classic

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team split on the final day of the Blue Jay Classic, topping Marywood (3-1) and falling to Eastern (3-1) Saturday afternoon.
 
After going 1-2 this weekend, the Blue Jays now sit at 16-5.
 
Freshman Bryanna Miller, who earned All-Tournament Team honors, finished the day with 37 kills and 21 digs. Freshman Sarah Hanks registered 45 assists and junior Aiyana Tietze-Di Toro recorded 58 digs, including a career-high 36 against Eastern.
 
ELIZABETHTOWN 3, MARYWOOD 1 (27-29, 25-22, 25-12, 25-13)
  • SET ONE: It was a back-and-forth affair in the first set, as Elizabethtown managed to move ahead by one after a kill by Miller made the score 26-25. The Pacers however responded, scoring four of the final five points for the early 1-0 lead.
  • SET TWO: The Blue Hays rebounded in the second, holding a four-point lead (21-17) late in the set. Marywood answered once again, scoring four straight point to tie the match at 21. The Blue Jays however did not allow the Pacers to complete the comeback in this set, wrapping up the second on a 4-1 run, tying the score at one.
  • SET THREE: Holding a two point lead (8-6) early in the third, Elizabethtown took control of the set with a 5-1 rally capped off by a kill by Miller. Marywood bounced back with two points of its own, but the Blue Jays snatched up the 2-1 advantage with a 12-3 run to finish off the third, 25-12.
  • SET FOUR: Elizabethtown left no doubt in the fourth, cruising out to a 13-7 leave midway through the fourth. The Pacers attempted to keep pace, rattling of two points to move within four, but the Blue Jays used another big run (12-4), to wrap up its 16th win of the season, 3-1.
ELIZABETHTOWN 1, EASTERN 3 (23-25, 25-22, 24-26, 19-25)
  • SET ONE: Tied at 21, Elizabethtown scored two quick points to move ahead of the Eagles, 23-21. Eastern responded, taking back the momentum with the final four points of the opening set for the 25-23 win.
  • SET TWO: Once again tied at 21, the Blue Jays managed to hold onto the momentum in the second, going on a 4-1 run for the 25-22 victory. Senior Elle Shatto, sophomore Shelly Yohe and Miller supplied the power to the final run, each registering a kill.
  • SET THREE: In what proved to be a decisive set, Elizabethtown held a two point lead after yet another kill by Miller made the score 22-20. The Blue Jays then pushed it to the brink, earning set point with a 24-23 lead. The Eagles, however, corralled the momentum and score the final three point of the set and steal the 2-1 lead from Elizabethtown.
  • SET FOUR: Eastern rolled that momentum into the final set of the day, running out to a 14-9 lead after seven consecutive points. The Blue Jays closed within one after an ace by Shatto made the score 15-14. Eastern would however score the next four points to take control again, as they finished off the 3-1 victory, 25-19.

Elizabethtown has the week off before it dives into Landmark Conference play at home on Saturday, Oct. 5. The Blue Jays will take on Moravian at 11 a.m. and Susquehanna at 6:30 p.m.
