Blue Jays Fall in Tight Affair with Yellow Jackets

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team battled hard against Baldwin Wallace, before falling to the visitors, 3-1, on day one the Blue Jay Classic.
 
With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 15-4 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 15-1.
 
Freshman Bryanna Miller finished with a career-high 20 kills to go along with 13 digs. Freshman Sarah Hanks (21) and sophomore Rileigh Hudock (19) combined for 40 assists while junior Aiyana Tietze-Di Toro recorded a team-high 21 digs. Senior Elle Shatto tallied a double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs.


 
ELIZABETHTOWN 1, BALDWIN WALLACE 3 (24-26, 17-25, 28-26, 23-25)
  • SET ONE: In what would turn into a trend for the night, the two teams found themselves tied late in the opening set at 23. Elizabethtown pushed its way to the front after Hudock rifled home an ace for the one point advantage (24-23). Baldwin Wallace responded however, scoring the final three points of the set to take a 1-0 lead with the 26-24 win.
  • SET TWO: After Baldwin Wallace jumped out to a five point lead in the second set (16-11), the Blue Jays bounced back, going on a 4-1 run to close within two (17-15). The Yellow Jackets ended the rally though, rattling off eight of the final 10 points of the second for the 25-17 victory.
  • SET THREE: Elizabethtown would not go away quietly, battling all the way through the third set. Down three (23-20), the Blue Jays responded with a 4-0 rally behind kills from Miller, Shatto and freshman Gillian Conner to take a 24-23 lead. Baldwin Wallace fought to earn game point (26-25), but Elizabethtown roared back for the 28-26 win, forcing a fourth set.
  • SET FOUR: Down four late in the fourth (18-14), the Blue Jays used another run to move within one point (18-17). The Yellow Jackets worked its way back to match point, and after Elizabethtown cut Baldwin Wallace's lead to one, junior Kathleen Egan shut the door for the Yellow Jackets for the 3-1 win.
