Spartans snap E-town's unbeaten streak

The Spartans grabbed an early lead on Erin Baier's first goal of the season to put York (Pa.) (3-6) up 1-0 7:03 into the contest. Lawson tried to equalize for Elizabethtown (4-2-1) a few minutes later, but was stopped by YCP goalie Jillian Kozak.

York was able to keep one out of the net in the 19th minute as Leigh Ungerleider's scoring chance was cleared away before finding its way into the goal. It remained 1-0 until Lawson struck for the Jays in the 34th minute. Angela Carcella played a ball into the box that Lawson was able to tap into the goal to tie the game.

The score remained tied at 1-1 through halftime.

Both teams had opportunities as the game wore on, but it was York that capitalized in the 83rd minute as Natalie McCarthy returned the lead to the Spartans with her third of the year.

Samantha Wanamaker's chance to tie the game a second time was denied by Kozak in the 87th minute and from there, YCP was able to hang on for the win.

Trinity Soto made three saves for the Blue Jays in the same while Kozak also ended with three.

Elizabethtown will open up Landmark Conference play on Saturday, September 28, at home when they host reigning champion Susquehanna at 4 p.m.
