WESTMINSTER, Md. – Elizabethtown women's volleyball continued its outstanding start to the 2019 season, topping non-conference foe McDaniel in straight sets Wednesday evening
With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 12-1 and extend their winning streak to 11 matches. At 12-1, Elizabethtown matches the 2006 team for the best start in program history.
Senior
Elle Shatto (11 kills, 10 digs), sophomore
Rileigh Hudock (13 assists, 15 digs) and freshman
Bryanna Miller (11 kills, 14 digs) all finished with double-doubles for the Blue Jays. Junior
Aiyana Tietze-Di Toro recorded a team-high 21 digs, while sophomore
Shelly Yohe and freshman
Elizabeth Zeiber each totaled three total blocks.
ELIZABETHTOWN 3, McDANIEL 0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-15)
• SET ONE: The Blue Jays jumped out to an eight point lead (14-6) in the opening set capped off by a kill from freshman
Courtney Westman. The Green Terror however managed to battle all the way back and eventually tied the score at 21 after a kill from Emma Lorenzen. The two teams would tie the score at 22, 23 and 24 before Elizabethtown scored the final two points to take the opening set 26-24.
• SET TWO: Down by one point (11-10) midway through the second set, the Blue Jays rattled off six straight points to take a 16-11 lead. McDaniel moved back within one (17-16), forcing an Elizabethtown timeout. The Blue Jays came out of the break and would finish off the middle set on an 8-1 run for the 25-17 victory.
• SET THREE: Elizabethtown wrapped up its third straight 3-0 victory in dominating fashion, racing out to an 8-1 victory after a kill by Yohe. The Blue Jays stretched its lead to 15-7, forcing a timeout by the Green Terror. McDaniels closed within five (18-13) before Elizabethtown finished off the night with a 7-2 rally to take the final set 25-15.
