ANNVILLE, Pa. -- A few days after dropping the Smith-Herr Boot Game to nationally ranked Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday, the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team rebounded with a 3-1 win at Lebanon Valley Saturday afternoon.
Connor Rathsam scored a pair of goals for the Blue Jays in the victory.
Lebanon Valley (2-2-1) grabbed the lead in the 13th minute on Braydon Shuck's second tally of the season. Noah Campomizzi played a ball in from the right to Shuck, who did the rest for the goal to put the hosts ahead by a goal.
Elizabethtown (2-2-1) had some chances in the early going, but goalie Sean Quirk kept the Blue jays off the score sheet. That lasted until the 30th minute when Rathsam was able to beat Quirk for E-town's first of three unanswered goals.
Liam Alese played a corner ball into the area, but it was deflected out. It found the foot of Rathsam, who placed the ball top left corner from 20 yards to tie the game up at 1-1.
The first 20 minutes of the second half went without a goal and the score still knotted at one apiece. That was until
Cameron Sheva struck for the Jays in the 66th minute. A shot by
Tate Mohney was blocked, but Sheva collected the ball and put it left corner to give Elizabethtown the lead.
Rathsam would net the brace later in the half, scoring on a penalty kick in the 74th minute to make it 3-1 in favor of E-town.
Starting goalie
Kelvin Del Cid stopped five shots in the final 17 minutes to maintain the lead for the Blue Jays. Del Cid made nine stops in total to get the win. Quirk finished the afternoon with five saves for LVC.
The men's soccer team will play at Alvernia on Wednesday, September 18, for the annual Kicks For Cancer event in coordination with the Golden Wolves. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
