ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Lydia Lawson scored for the third time in four games for the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team as the Blue Jays drew with Franklin & Marshall Tuesday night in non-conference action at Ira R. Herr Field. It was Lawson's fourth goal of the season.
Trinity Soto stopped a season-high nine shots for E-town in goal.
Nicolette Runko put Franklin & Marshall (2-1-1) up the board first with her second of the season in the 11th minute. Runko, who had her penalty kick saved by Soto, collected the rebound and put it home to give the Diplomats the early lead. Though F&M had a distinct advantage in possession and shots, Elizabethtown (2-1-1) was level just ten minutes later.
The buildup in possession down the left flank ended with Lawson producing her team-leading fourth of the year.
Kristin Wilkinson squared a ball inside to
Angela Carcella, who sent Lawson on her way into the box. The senior forward alertly popped the ball over the oncoming goalie as the ball sailed into the right side netting of the empty goal.
The teams went into the half still tied at 1-1.
E-town tightened defensively after being outshot 11-2 in the first half. The Diplomats held a slim edge in shots the rest of the way, 9-7.
Sydney Detky had the Blue Jays' top chance in the first overtime session after neither side could produce a winning goal in regulation. Later, in the second session, Meg O'Callahan's glancing header stayed just outside the post with less than two minutes left.
Soto made a pair of saves in overtime to deny F&M the golden goal victory. Tara Hessenthaler came on after halftime to play the final 65 minutes for the Diplomats. She made two saves in the game.
The women's soccer team will host Stevenson on senior night this Saturday, September 14, at 7 p.m.
