With the loss, Elizabethtown falls to 0-2 on the season, while the Big Red, who are receiving votes in the NFHCA Division III National Coaches Poll, improve to 2-0.

Denison's first goal came with just under three minutes to go in the first quarter as junior Lyse Wagner managed to deflect a sharp pass from sophomore Maya Tumiwa into the left side of the goal for her first tally of the season.

The Big Red added to their lead right before the half, taking advantage of a quick transition. Freshman Meg Baylis found space on the left side on the counter and slotted a pass through to an open junior Lauren Lazo, who was in on goal. Lazo finished up the break away, firing a shot into the left side of the cage for the two-goal lead heading into intermission.

Elizabethtown came up with the first shot on goal in the third quarter, as senior Celene Desko directed a shot on goal, but was stopped by junior Teya Adams. Neither team could find the back of the goal in the third stanza as the score remained 2-0.

Denison capitalized on its fourth corner of the game at the start of the final period for its third and final goal of the game. Directly off the corner, Baylis slipped a pass to senior Charlotte Happel, who fired it home for her first of the season, wrapping up the 3-0 win for the Big Red.

E-town had an 8-4 advantage in corner attempts, but couldn't turn those opportunities into scoring chances. The Jays had two late, but the Denison defense held and completed the shutout.

The field hockey team will play at Lebanon Valley on Wednesday, September 4, at 7 p.m.
