Field hockey takes down Lebanon Valley in OT for first win

ANNVILLE, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College field hockey team held a pair of leads in Wednesday's non-conference game at Lebanon Valley. Lauren Scheib scored her second of the game in overtime to lift the Blue Jays to a 3-2 win. Olivia Beachley also scored for E-town in the win.

Elizabethtown (1-2) didn't surrender a single shot to the Dutchmen in the opening quarter of play as they outshot Lebanon Valley (0-2) 3-0 in the first 15 minutes. Corinne Kearney stopped two of those shots to keep it a 0-0 game going into the second.

About midway through the second, Beachley scored her first of the season from a tough angle after a shot was deflected. The senior had inserted a corner to start the play and wound up scoring the goal for the Blue Jays, who led 1-0 nearly 23 minutes into the game.

LVC had three corners to round out the half, but Madeline Kachel denied the only shot to make it on goal and E-town held its one-goal advantage through halftime.

Cecile Kat tied the game up 1:21 into the third quarter, but the lead didn't last long at all as Scheib notched her first of the night less than three minutes later. Anna Mostoller set up Scheib for the goal with a pass into the middle and the senior took care of the rest, scoring from up top to make it 2-1.

Kat added her second goal of the game with less than 10 minutes to go. Lebanon Valley held Elizabethtown without a shot in the fourth quarter as they came back for a second time and forced overtime at Arnold Field.

On another corner for the Jays, Beachley inserted the ball and ended up on the stick of Scheib, who buried the game-winner to get one back in the win column for Elizabethtown. Chloe Smith was credited with an assist on the goal.

Kachel finished the night with six saves for her first career win. Kearney made four saves for the Dutchmen.

Elizabethtown will host Muhlenberg on Saturday, September 7, at 3 p.m.
