ELIZABETHTOWN – With a late goal in regulation and another in overtime, RPI managed to sneak past Elizabethtown on day one of the season-opening Brothers Pizza Blue Jay/Red Devil Classic on Friday evening at Ira R. Herr Field.

Freshman
Tate Mohney scored his first career goal, while senior
Connor Rathsam tallied an assist.
The Engineers were paced by junior Trevor Bission, leading all scorers with a goal and an assist. Freshman Arik Duncan scored the game winning goal for RPI and sophomore Paul Silva and junior Michael Harten each notched assists.
The Blue Jays struck first in the opening period, as Rathsam knocked a free kick to Mohney on the left side of the penalty box. With his back to goal, Mohney turned his defender and fired a shot to the opposite post, giving Elizabethtown the early 1-0 lead.
The Engineers turned up the pressure in the second half, out-shooting the Blue Jays 9-5 and maintaining possession late. RPI managed to find the game-tying goal late, as Bisson took a pass from Silva and looped a shot into the back of the net, forcing overtime with 23 second remaining in regulation.
After a scoreless first overtime period, the Engineers took advantage of a free kick, as Harten lobbed a service into the Elizabethtown box from half. After a scrum inside the 18, Bisson managed to touch the ball down to Duncan who knocked home the game winner.
Freshman Kevin Del Cid (0-1) made his first career start for the Blue Jays, making four saves on six shots on goal.
Sophomore Luke Brezek (1-0) earned he opening-season win for the Engineers, recording five saves on six shots on goal.
Elizabethtown is right back to action tomorrow night at home on the final day of the Brothers Pizza Blue Jay/Red Devil Classic against Plattsburgh State. Opening kickoff is 5 p.m.
