Varrato homers twice as E-town splits with Susquehanna

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Emma Varrato provided all the offense the Elizabethtown College softball team would need in game one, though Susquehanna would get even with the Blue Jays as the teams split Saturday's Landmark Conference doubleheader at The Nest. Varrato had her first career multi-homer game in the Jays' 5-3 win in game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1: Elizabethtown 5, Susquehanna 3

- Susquehanna (9-10, 2-4 Landmark) went on top with two swings of the bat in the first inning. Kasey Bost and Kody Streeter singled in runs as the River Hawks went ahead 3-0.
- Varrato answered with one swing of the bat in the bottom half of the first with a three-run homer over the center field fence to score Kaitlyn Witmer and Kady Johnson.
- The senior broke the 3-3 tie in the fourth with her second home run of the contest, this time a two-run shot down the left field line to put Elizabethtown (9-17, 1-5 Landmark) ahead 5-3.
- Amber Sergas didn't allow a run after the first inning and threw six shutout innings to finish off the River Hawks with a complete game for her fourth win of the year.
- Varrato was 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs, Christina Dark finished 2-for-3 and Courtney Fitzsimons was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.

Game 2: Susquehanna 13, Elizabethtown 0 (F/5)
- The River Hawks got their redemption in game two with an explosive offensive performance.
- Susquehanna scored multiple runs in the four of the five innings played, including five in the fifth.
- Brittany Hebda and Katie Koch led SUS with three hits apiece.
- Amanda Seckinger limited the Blue Jays to five hits in the game, which came from five different E-town batters.
- Taylor Herman, Lindsey Fasolo, Dark, Witmer, and Fitzsimons had the hits for the Jays.
