WINCHESTER, Va. -- While the Elizabethtown College baseball team has come through with a few late-inning rallies, the Blue Jays were on the losing end of a walkoff this time around as Shenandoah won Tuesday night's non-conference matchup 7-6 on a game-ending RBI single by Wyatt Potter.
Dylan Everly and
Arley Shepherd both had two RBIs apiece for E-town.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Shenandoah (26-11) led 2-0 after two innings, getting a run in the first and second.
- Shepherd drove a single through the right side and scored
Andrew Fisher and
Tyler McGonigle to even the score at 2-2.
- Elizabethtown (12-25) had a 3-2 lead in the fifth after
Robbie Bertucio scored on an error. The Jays held the lead until the seventh when the Hornets answered.
- An RBI double tied it for Shenandoah before a pair of bases loaded walks gave the Hornets a one and two-run lead.
-
Michael Rajnik scored on a wild pitch in the eighth to get E-town within a run.
- A balk in the bottom of the eighth allowed a run to score for SU, who went back up by two, 6-4, going into the ninth.
-
JT Thompson and Shepherd each singled, and, after
James Vito reached base to load them for the Jays, Everly knocked a base hit to right field to score Thompson and Shepherd to tie the game for a third time.
- Shenandoah was able to load the bases in the bottom of the ninth and Potter singled to left to score Jamie Naill and give the Hornets the walkoff win.
- Along with their two RBIs, Shepherd and Everly also led the Blue Jays with three hits.
