SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Madelyn Baker and
Lexie Sharp closed out their seasons with hat tricks and the Elizabethtown College women's lacrosse team held on to beat Susquehanna 10-8 on Saturday at Sassafras Field.
Jess Principe,
Kate Ziegler, and
Mirthe Berends also scored in the win for the Blue Jays.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Elizabethtown (6-10, 3-4 Landmark) got ahead of the River Hawks with four of the game's first five goals. The Jays were up 3-1 midway through the first half and ahead 4-1 with a little over 12 minutes before halftime.
- Principe's first of two in the game was the opening score nearly seven minutes in. Baker provided the assist.
- Sharp and two from Baker made it 4-1.
- Susquehanna (7-9, 2-5 Landmark) scored with 8:00 and 3:10 on the clock to cut it to 4-3 by the half.
- Baker's hat trick was complete as her 57th of the season made it 5-3 early on in the second half.
- Kathrina DeMaio brought SU back within a goal, but four straight from E-town helped extend the lead to five, 9-4.
- Sharp scored back-to-back goals for her hat trick, Principe tallied up a player as did Berends with 13:38 to go in regulation.
- Susquehanna didn't go down quietly as they pulled back within a goal with 6:43 remaining after scoring four consecutive goals.
- Ziegler added her 51st of the season 37 seconds later to make it 10-8.
- The Blue Jays' defense didn't allow a goal the rest of the way as
Abby Kopytko made five saves to get the win.
- Libby Dex recorded 17 saves for the River Hawks.
