Baxter nets all-conference honor

MADISON, N.J. -- In the inaugural season for the Elizabethtown College men's volleyball team, Nick Baxter set records and helped the Blue Jays to a tie for seventh in the Continental Volleyball Conference after E-town was picked ninth in the preseason poll. Baxter's impressive campaign netted him a spot on the All-CVC Second Team.

Baxter finished with 12 kills in the program's inaugural match at Widener on January 23, 2019, a 3-0 sweep for the Blue Jays. The junior was only held to fewer than 10 kills in a match four times in 29 matches this season.

Baxter dropped an NCAA record 37 kills for a five-set match on February 2 against Trine at Misericordia's tournament. E-town fed their leading hitter plenty this season with numbers that put him third in the Division III for attacks per set. He was fifth nationally in kills per set and points per set. Baxter led the CVC in all three categories.

His 4.48 kills per set also broke the conference's record of 4.42. Baxter averaged 5.28 points per set and 11.49 attacks per set.

While known for his power and kills ability, Baxter also contribute plenty defensively for Elizabethtown. He finished the season with 205 digs and led the team with 64 total blocks. Baxter added 40 service aces and totaled 522.5 points for the Jays in 99 sets.

Baxter, a three-time conference Player of the Week, joined six others on the Second Team. Kean's Ian Capp was named Player and Setter of the Year as well as First Team. Arvind Kumar of Rutgers-Newark was named the Rookie of the Year. Southern Virginia's Daniel Aina earned Libero of the Year. His coach, Tom Peterson, was chosen Coach of the Year.

Elizabethtown ended 4-7 in the CVC and tied for seventh, one spot out of the playoff picture, but better than the team was predicted to do prior to the season.
