CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team won one and lost one on Saturday on their final day of the team's spring break trip in Florida. The Blue Jays were shut out by SUNY Fredonia, then produced a shut out of their own in blanking Gordon College and ending the game in six innings.
Sarah Personette hit her team-leading third home run of the season.
Elizabethtown (4-6) was limited offensively against SUNY Fredonia (1-2) in the first game of the day. The Jays were only able to get three hits off K. Yudin over seven innings.
Jillian Meitzler,
Emma Varrato, and
Kaitlyn Witmer recorded a hit apiece for E-town in the 6-0 loss.
The Blue Jays only needed the run in the second inning provided by
Taylor Herman. However, Elizabethtown scored seven times in the sixth inning. Ahead 6-0 and threatening to end the game early with the bases loaded,
Paige Phillips did just that with a one-out single to left field, scoring
Courtney Fitzsimons to end the game.
Personette jacked her third homer of 2019, another three-run shot, to start the scoring in the sixth. Fitzsimons,
Kady Johnson, and
Emma Varrato also had RBIs in the inning for the Jays.
Amber Sergas collected her second win of the season. She struck out six over six innings and walked only one batter.
The softball team will play at Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday, March 13, for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
