Wilkinson pitches complete game to help Jays earn split with Penn State Harrisburg

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- Alyssa Wilkinson pitched a complete game in game two of Wednesday's non-conference doubleheader at Penn State Harrisburg. The junior allowed only one run and E-town salvaged the split with the Lions after a 2-1 game two win. The Blue Jays fell in game one, 3-1.

Game 1: Penn State Harrisburg 3, Elizabethtown 1
Two of Penn State Harrisburg's (5-2) three runs in the game came on one swing in the first inning. Emma Varrato cut the deficit in half with an RBI single in the fourth inning, scoring Kady Johnson on the play.

PSH tacked on a run in the bottom half of the fourth to make it 3-1 and didn't allow a run the rest of the way to take game one, 3-1.

Game 2: Elizabethtown 2, Penn State Harrisburg 1
Elizabethtown (5-7) returned the favor in game two, only allowing the Lions a single run over seven innings. Alyssa Wilkinson tossed a four-hitter and struck out four in her complete game start in game two.

Penn State Harrisburg took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double, but after that, Wilkinson shut the door on the Lions. She worked through a tough spot in the second with the bases loaded. The lefty got a fly out to center to end the threat. She didn't allow a runner past first base the rest of the game.

The Blue Jays recorded their two runs in the fifth inning. Ashley Mistichelli doubled to lead off the top half of the frame, one of her two in the game. After Johnson came on to pinch run, the bases were loaded for Taylor Herman. She hit a ball deep enough to left to allow Johnson to scoot home from third and tie the game 1-1. Two batters later, Paige Phillips knocked in Jillian Meitzler, who got on after drawing a walk. Elizabethtown led 2-1 after five.

Wilkinson retired the side in order in the fifth and sixth innings and did not allow a hit over the final three she pitched to get her second win of the season.

Herman, Phillips, and Mistichelli each had two hits for the Jays in game two.

Elizabethtown will start Landmark Conference play at Catholic on Saturday, March 16.
