SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Despite a brief scare during doubles play, the Elizabethtown College women's tennis team made sure it got its first Landmark win of the season by taking all six singles matches to beat Susquehanna 7-2 on Saturday.
Madelyn Binder and
Meghan Chemidlin each maintained their unbeaten records in singles for the Blue Jays.
With only one loss at doubles coming into Saturday's Landmark Conference matchup, Elizabethtown (5-1, 1-1 Landmark) dropped two of the three matches and saw Susquehanna (5-4, 0-1 Landmark) go up 2-0. Meanwhile,
Lenea Riehl and
Kailey Caroland were locked in a tight battle with Ashlynn Searer and Haley White at No. 1 doubles. Riehl and Caroland got a point back for the Blue Jays with a 9-7 win over the River Hawks' number one team.
From there, it was pretty smooth sailing for E-town. Caroland ended her match with Abagail Ransom quickly with straight set wins of 6-0, 6-0. Chemidlin wasn't far behind with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. The win moved her to 6-0 on the year at that spot. Riehl closed out Searer at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-2.
Amber Burd's win at No. 4 was the match clincher for Elizabethtown, who hit the five-point mark with the senior's 6-4, 6-0 victory over Haley White.
Binder won her second match at No. 5 and is now 3-0 in singles action.
Sarah Donner also won for the Jays, 6-4, 6-2.
Elizabethtown has a quick turnaround as they face Juniata tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. on the road.
