Four players with multiple goals in E-town's win over Frostburg State

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse shrugged off its recent post halftime struggles and finished off Frostburg State Tuesday afternoon at Wolf Field. A one-goal halftime lead turned into a four-goal win for the Blue Jays, who beat the Bobcats 14-10 as four players recorded multi-goal games for E-town.

Matthew Ward and Paul Ruppert put Frostburg State (7-2) ahead 2-0 through three minutes and some change. Mike Scrafano scored his first of three in the game a little over a minute after the Bobcats grabbed the 2-0 lead. Scrafano responded to another FSU goal to make it 3-2 with his second of the game.

Elizabethtown (4-5) trailed 4-2 with time winding down in the first quarter when Alex Filbert tallied with an unassisted goal with 40 seconds on the clock, his fourth of the year.

Shortly into the second quarter, Scrafano completed his hat trick with his 13th of the season to tie the game at 4-4. Nick Cost gave E-town the lead minutes on his first of two in the game.

After Frostburg State tied it back up, Scott Nizolak got in toward goal and found the twine for his seventh to return the lead to the Blue Jays. Thomas Palen followed that up with an assist on Benjamin O'Connor's man-up goal with 2:23 to go in the half as Elizabethtown extended the lead to two, 7-5.

Ward got the goal back with 1:24 left in the quarter and E-town led 7-6 at the half.

Ryan Field went low on the goalie four minutes into the third quarter and threaded the ball through a tight angle to register the first goal of his E-town career. Andrew Watts scored 3:05 later on an extra-man opportunity to extend the lead to three, 9-6. Scrafano provided the assist on the goal.

Filbert, Griffin Liebsch, and Cody Richter (2) scored goals in the fourth quarter as the lead got to as many as five, 14-9. Ward scored with less than a minute to go to cut it to four, but the Blue Jays held on for the 14-10 win.

Tom Mahoney stopped eight shots for Elizabethtown. Jack Marks made a game-high 12 for Frostburg State.

The Blue Jays play at Goucher on Saturday, March 30.
