CARLISLE, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team won game one at Dickinson and were three outs away from a sweep, but a rally in the seventh by the Red Devils denied the Blue Jays a pair of wins Monday evening in non-conference action.
Christina Dark got the win in game one and added RBIs for E-town in game two.
Game 1: Elizabethtown 7, Dickinson 4
Sarah Personette and
Kady Johnson gave Elizabethtown (6-10) an early lead in the game one. Personette brought home two runs with a single to center field in the top of the first. Johnson added a sac fly RBI to make it 3-0 E-town.
The Blue Jays led 6-1 after two innings as
Emma Varrato helped add to the lead in the second.
Christina Dark came on in relief to pitch four effective innings for Elizabethtown, only allowing one run on two hits. Dark would get her first win of the season as the Jays held on, 7-4. Dark also had two hits at the plate, as did
Jillian Meitzler.
Game 2: Dickinson 5, Elizabethtown 4
Amber Sergas had the support of her offense through six innings in game two.
Lindsey Fasolo knocked in the first run of the game in the top of the first with an RBI double to score
Taylor Herman.
Dark broke a 1-1 tie in the third with a two-run base hit to center. Fasolo added her second RBI of the game in the fifth with a triple that allowed Varrato to score. Fasolo's second extra base hit made it 4-1 Blue Jays.
Elizabethtown ran into some trouble in the bottom of the seventh as Dickinson (4-6) would get the bases loaded. The Red Devils got one back on a run-scoring bunt that made it 4-2. That was followed up by a bases-clearing walkoff triple for Dickinson, who came back to win game two and deny the Jays the sweep with a 5-4 win.
The softball team will host Moravian on Saturday, March 23, for a Landmark Conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
